1: How do I tell if a Vitamin E product is a Natural or Synthetic form?

Our products are clearly marked on the front panel. If the product has (d-alpha) it is a natural form of Vitamin E. If the product states that it is (dl-alpha), then it is a synthetic form of Vitamin E. If it has both, it is a mixed combination of both synthetic and natural Vitamin E.

2: What does the "d" and "dl" mean on a Vitamin E label?

When Vitamin E occurs naturally, it occurs as the "d" form only. Hence, natural Vitamin E always has a "d" designation alpha tocopherol. When Vitamin E is prepared synthetically, it contains about 50% "d" and 50% "l" molecular rotations. Hence, synthetic Vitamin E has a "dl" designation.

3: What is the natural Vitamin E derived from?

Natural Vitamin E is derived from plant sources such as soy. Our products contain many natural ingredients. The color variance you may see is just the normal variance that occurs in nature due to the season, etc. (We do not add anything to modify the natural color.)

12: How does CoQ-10 work in the body systems exactly?

In humans, CoQ-10 levels peak at about 20 years of age, and decrease greatly with age. CoQ-10 has been extensively studied worldwide to investigate its role in the maintenance of cardiovascular and immunological health. The function is part of the cellular respiration comprising oxidative phosphorylation as electron-carrying coenzymes in the transport of electrons from organic substrates to oxygen esp. along the chain of reactions leading from the krebs cycle.*

13: What are free radicals?

Free radicals are highly reactive molecules in the body, which can destroy tissues by oxidizing cell membrane lipids and damaging DNA, the body's genetic material. Free radicals are produced through the body's normal process of metabolizing the air we breath and the food that we eat, as well as exposure to tobacco smoke, excess sunlight, and environmental pollutants. Antioxidants work in the body by neutralizing free radicals.*

16: What is the difference between a standardized extract and the whole herb product?

By utilizing extracts, scientists attempt to identify one or more chemicals from the herb they consider to be primarily responsible for specific effects or activities in the body. Standardized extracts contain a consistent level of specific ingredients in every batch.

Whole herbs, unlike extracts, may have some variability in ratios of specific ingredients from batch to batch. Growing conditions, weather, soil composition and harvest date are some of the factors that can influence a whole herb profile, just as they can influence the nutritional composition of most foods. However, whole herbs do offer the benefit of delivering all of the ingredients found naturally as part of the herbs.

Sundown provides both standardized and whole herbs to provide the consumers with the products that meet their needs the best.
